Abstract

The Zen thought of Suzuki Daisetsu, a Japanese Buddhist scholar, had a significant influence on Yeats’s life and philosophy as well as his late poetry. This Eastern thought helped Yeats get out of his lifelong dualistic conflicts and realize the true meaning of the Unity of Being in his last poems. This paper is to investigate Yeats’s encounter with Zen and Suzuki and the characteristics of Zen thoughts as reflected in his “A Dialogue of Self and Soul,”
