Abstract

This essay aims to present the postmodern postcoloniality in W. B. Yeats's poetry. One of Yeats’s greatness is that there are many different Yeatses as traditionalist or innovator, modernist or postmodernist, nationalist or antinationalist, colonialist or postcolonialist. Studying with care the early, middle, and late poems, I recognize Yeats’s postcolonial intention to make an entirely Irish literature, securing the newly emerging nation independent from England. His life-long quest is to make Ireland think of its own literature and art.
