Abstract

Seamus Heaney’s poetics is derived from a farming tradition whichinvolved affirmative or negative productivity in a sheltered area, feeding them on aminimum diet under British colonial domination. As he commented, the power-whether poetic or political- is achieved through linguistic and cultural authenticity ofpoetry rather than through an academic skill. His resistance through writing is notfrom his reductionism but from his receptivity of a rich tradition, the so-called bogculture. Finally, this poetic reception of his colonial experiences in poor conditions isdeeply rooted in his realistic consciousness and it is represented through hismotherland or bog land.
