Abstract

Bloody Sunday in Northern Ireland, which is one of the most tragic events in modern Irish history, has been reenacted in various types of art forms. This paper suggests how the vernacular people’s and community’s traumatic memory of Bloody Sunday was represented through Seamus Heaney’s “The Road to Derry,” Thomas Kinsella’s “Butcher’s Dozen,” and Paul Muldoon’s “The Year of the Sloes, for Ishi.” Moreover this paper analyzes how the fragmented memories and accounts from the eyewitnesses of the event were created into a cohesive narrative through Paul Greengrass’s film, Bloody Sunday.
