Localization as a Modifier of Globalization: Seamus Heaney and the Dispossessed Repossessed
Abstract
Japanese example of global capitalism and its failure suggests the importance of localism as a modifier of globalism, redressing power to recover what has been suppressed. Diversity and equality represent the essence of the legacy of post-colonial culture, handed over to the mature democratic culture. Nationalism in the 19th century was competitive. However, contemporary national localism has a trend of a defensive and redressive position against the predominance of international uniformity. Nobel Prize poet Seamus Heaney, in an essay ‘The Poems of the Dispossessed Repossessed’ in The Government of the Tongue, tracing the sense of the birth-place tradition in Hardy, Yeats, and Heaney himself, talked in the series of lectures in The Redress of Poetry. Heaney spoke of the chance of redress of what or who has been neglected or discriminated against in society. In this context, my paper is a report on the importance of globalism to acquire the power to modify itself to realize the human aspect of democracy, diversity, and equality of each constituent member of the social structure. Heaney’s stress of the word is what he learned from Yeats.
초록
글로벌 자본주의와 그 실패에 대한 일본의 예는 억압된 것을 회복하기 위한 권력을 교정하는 글로벌리즘의 수정자로서 로컬리즘의 중요성을 시사한다. 다양성과 평등은 성숙한 민주주의 문화로 계승된 탈식민 문화 유산의 본질을 드러낸다. 19세기의 민족주의는 경쟁을 중심으로 하였다. 그러나 현대의 민족적 지역주의는 국제적 획일성에 대한 방어적, 구제적 입장을 취하는 경향을 보인다. 노벨상 수상 시인 셰이머스 히니는 말의 정부의 한 평론인 ｢몰수된 것의 회복｣에서 하디, 예이츠, 히니 자신의 출생지의 전통이 지닌 의미를 추적한다. 히니는 사회에서 방치되거나 사회에서 무시되거나 차별 받는 대상이나 사람들을 보상할 기회에 대해 언급했다. 이러한 맥락에서 이 논문은 사회 구조를 구성하는 각 구성원의 민주주의, 다양성, 평등이라는 인간적 측면을 실현하기 위해 스스로를 수정하는 힘을 획득하는 글로벌리즘의 중요성에 대한 논의한다. Heaney가 글로벌리즘이라는 단어를 강조한 것은 예이츠에게서 배운 것이다.
